Generations: From one to the next
In the 1960s and '70s, my grandfather, Clifford Darton Kelly, traveled back and forth across Canada from where he was living in Montreal to where he grew up in Richmond, B.C. He took many photographs during these trips. A few years ago my parents went through these colour slides and pulled out the ones with family in them. They planned to throw out the rest, something that went against my pack rat ways. I took the discards and after a lengthy period of letting them sit in my closet, I came up with an idea to reuse them. I freeze them in ice and rephotograph the altered analog slides with a digital camera. I've started to refer to this series as "Generations" in reference to the crossing both a family and technological generation, from my grandfather to me and from analog to digital photography.
